Ask Yourself This: What Can My Dog Teach Me?

OUR TRAINING SERVICES

Obedience Instruction
We offer Natural Dog Training in New York City. We only do private sessions and owner-orientation classes, no puppy obedience classes. That’s because puppies don’t have the emotional stability or physical endurance to enjoy learning much of anything in a very distracting setting when all they want to do is jump around and play. It’s true that a puppy’s mind is like a sponge; it’s ready to soak up everything. But the flip side of that analogy is that when you apply pressure to a sponge you can squeeze it dry. A puppy’s mind is the same way.

What, No Puppy Classes?
That’s right. The latest research shows show that 1/2 hour of free play creates more structure, emotional stability, and impulse control than a full 6 weeks of puppy class. Play also increases brain growth factors exponentially. This is why more and more trainers and dog owners are starting to realize that puppy obedience classes can cause learning deficits, decrease a puppy’s social skills, stunt his emotional growth, and interfere with nature’s blueprint for learning and development. So while puppy play groups are generally a good idea (depending on who the moderator is), puppy obedience classes are actually detrimental to the natural learning process.

How Does it Work?
We
come to your home and teach you how to get down on your pup’s level and teach him the natural way of interacting with you and with other dogs. We start at 8 wks. and show you the natural way to teach your puppy manners: mouthing, destructive chewing, jumping up, etc. Then at about 14 wks. your puppy will have the physical control necessary to start the housebreaking process. Shortly after that we show you the natural way to socialize your pup and teach him to walk on a leash, etc. Then, when the pup is finally physically and emotionally developed enough (around 6 - 9 months), that’s when we teach you how to train basic obedience commands.

The main thing to focus on during the early stages is how to build a relationship with your puppy that
’s based on trust and playfulness. The rest will come naturally.

For owners interested in pinpoint control we can also teach advanced behaviors like the down while running, heeling off-lead, and our “patented” recall—while the dog is running away away from you, he’ll turn on a dime and come running back at full speed.

Natural Dog Training is so fun and easy you’ll only need to spend a few minutes a day on training each behavior and command. It’s mostly a matter of learning how to play with your dog and integrating obedience skills into the process.

Our sessions with you usually last about an hour and a half. But the sessions you have with your dog should only take 5-10 minutes, max, though you can do several sessions a day. The whole point of Natural Dog Training is to make learning as fun and as easy as possible, for the dog and the owner!

Dog Training
This is our most effective program. Instead of teaching you how to train your dog yourself, one of our trainers will work personally with the pooch on a regular basis until your doggie is fully trained. You’ll have to do some of the work, of course, but the advantage here is that the pup will learn directly from us. (Availability limited.)

Long Distance Training
With the advent of the internet and streaming video, we’re now able to offer extremely effective long-distance training sessions via telephone, e-mail, and video feeds.

Solving Behavioral Problems the Natural Way
Since almost all behavioral problems relate in some way back to the two main questions any dog has about life (“Am I safe?” and “What do I do with my energy?”), and since Natural Dog Training techniques are geared to specifically answer those questions, we are better able to solve behavioral problems like fear, shyness, aggression, separation anxiety, obsessive licking or chewing, etc., than other trainers or even certified behaviorists. Here's why: pack leader techniques tend to work by temporarily putting a lid on a dog’s emotions. Meanwhile behavioral science techniques dull or deaden your dog’s natural feelings and responses. And when that doesn’t work, most behaviorists eventually resort to the use of drugs.

Natural Dog Training is the only method that fully understands the imbalances in natural emotional energy that causes all behavioral problems. From the natural perspectitive, curing emotional problems is usually just a matter of making the dog feel safe, and giving him a natural outlet for his energy. However, just because it’s simple, that doesn’t mean it’s easy. With difficult issues it can take time for a dog to feel safe about expressing his emotions.
But our methods always work, with all dogs. And we solve all behavioral problems without the use of drugs.

Please don't let your dog suffer in silence. We can help!

Package Deals
You can save money on any of these training programs when you sign up for a package deal. This means that you make a committment to the training process. If you can make that committment, we can offer discounts on advance payment for either 3 sessions (usually for puppies, you'll save from $75 - $100), 5 sessions (usually for basic training or solving behavioral problems, pay for 4 sessions in advance and get the 5th for free), or 10 sessions (for more advanced obedience behaviors or for solving deep-rooted behavioral problems, pay for 8 sessions, get 2 free).

Become a Dog Trainer
If you’d like to learn how to train dogs the new, fun, natural and most effective way possible, I offer a masters course for aspiring trainers. These methods are so innovative and so effective, even established professionals have studied with me.
